A Funny Book

Out of nowhere we heard Anders laughing.  Hysterically.  Then a pause followed by more laughing.

This Toy Story book must be pretty funny.

This went on for a good 15 minutes.  I hope this means we have another lover of books.

Daddies Do It Different

I know there are some of you who want to correct the title of this post.  I know it should be "Daddies Do It Differently."  But I'm referencing the title of a book, so you will just have to deal.  If you hate it that much, you can write the author. (Editor's Note: Oh, I totally will.)

I facilitated a program at the library a couple of weeks ago called Muffins With Mom.  Aside from having muffins with mom, as the program name suggests, it was also to create a Father's Day gift.  After I taught the kids a song about moms, I read books about dads.  This turned out to be one of my favorites.  It was as if this author was a fly on the wall in our house.

Daddies Do it Different by Alan Lawrence Sitomer

This has to be one of my favorite pages from the book.

The book goes through all the ways that this little girl's dad does it different(ly).  From getting dressed in the morning, eating lunch, grocery shopping, bath time, to winding down for bed.  So take a gander at this book, add two more kids and a unruly dog, and you have my life.

Jon Klassen

I have a new book for all of you to check out.  Jon Klassen is a self proclaimed illustrator/author.  He has won several awards for his illustrations in various books, such as "Cat's Night Out".  The book that has become a new favorite is "I Want My Hat Back".  This is the first book Klassen both wrote and illustrated.  It is witty and funny and has wonderfully simple illustrations.  It also won the 2012 Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book Award.
Check it out when you get a chance.

Julia Cook

My next book recommendation is "My Mouth is a Volcano" by Julia Cook.  This book is about a kid who is constantly erupting.  He blames his mouth the volcano.  The book is a good read and teaches your kid how to deal with his erupting mouth.

If you know John even just a little bit, you know he has a lot of words.  I'm not really surprised since his dad and I also have many words.  John has had some trouble in school with interrupting the teacher, so my friend Pam recommended this book.  This book sparked the need to read more of Julia Cook's books and I haven't found one I haven't liked.

Favorite Children's Books

Alright everyone.  I want your help. Well, really I need your help.  I'm putting together book lists for the easy reader section of our library.  Lists like 'If you like Elephant and Piggie then try...' or 'Books about Princesses'.  I know the books I like and the books my kids like, but I'd like to know what books you and your kids like.  I'm always looking for new books, new authors, and new series.  I want to put together some totally awesome lists.  When I'm done with this project I'll gladly share my findings with all those interested.

Books, Books and more Books!

We love books in our family.  I read all the time before I had kids, and then my choices of material were limited since I really can't read a John Grisham or Mary Higgins Clark novel to my kids.  It's only now that I work in a library that I am able to have enough time alone that I read what I want to again.  But this isn't about me or my book choices for adults.  Since I work in the children's department at the library and have kids at home that love books, I thought I would share some of the books I come across that we really enjoy.  It's great when you find a book that is tolerated by adults since it will be read approximately 5023 times.

My first series to rave about is the Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems.  We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these books.  They are so simple yet say so much.  They are funny and light hearted, and the boys love to memorize the words so they can read them over and over again to each other.  I'm pretty sure these books have only spent 5 minutes on the shelf since entering our home.  Willems also has a Pigeon series that John finds hysterical.  But John finds everything hysterical.
