August Christian Fiene

As most of you know our newest little Fiene was very content in my belly and needed a little encouragement to enter the world. Since Hans and I had already scheduled the baptism for March 29th we needed this baby born pronto. My doctor brought me in Sunday night and started me on a pill to help soften my cervix. After a few hours this did the trick because I started having contractions (at least ones I could feel) by 3:30 in the morning. August Christian Fiene was born at 7:24 in the morning and weighed 9 pounds 12 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long. I knew I was going to have a big baby, but our sonogram at 36 weeks showed a 6 pound 9 ounce baby and in three weeks he gained all that weight!

John and August are like night and day. John never slept and ate every two hours. We have yet to see August's eyes because all he does is sleep and he doesn't seem interested in eating yet. Evidently big babies have a harder time keeping their glucose levels steady so we have been having to force feed him bottles to get something down his little throat. I'm told many babies sleep constantly during the first 24 hours (I wish John had been given this memo) and he should be more interested in eating tomorrow.

We had a fun-filled day so here are some pics for you to enjoy.

August just a few minutes old.

Getting warm after his bath and flexing his muscles.

Mommy and son bonding...trying to get him interested in eating.

Daddy is so proud...look at all that hair

John was checking out the new kiddo

John had to point out all of August's features, he was very anxious to hold him.

A little vidoe for you to enjoy

Hope you all are doing well and I'll post more when we get home. We have a baby shower on Saturday and the Baptism on Sunday so this will be a very busy weekend!

The Waiting Continues

I just wanted to keep everyone updated as to the status of my every growing belly. Yes, I still have the belly because this baby just doesn't want to meet the world right now, but it still is two weeks until my actual due date.

I've been doing weekly doctors visits for a about a month and at the last one my doctor told me it could be any day. This got Hans' hopes up and now anytime I call him or my mom they think I'm going into labor. No such luck!! I have another appointment on Monday and hopefully the doctor will find me dilated enough to start the process on Tuesday morning. If not, I am scheduled to be induced on the 23rd since the baptism is scheduled for the 29th.

I will keep you all posted as to what is going on and hopefully we will meet our little one soon.

Pregnancy update and house stuff

Today I had a ultrasound done to see how big the baby is and because of some scheduling issues I had to go to the hospital for this particular sonogram. Needless to say the doctor did not get the report in time for my appointment so I don't know much. The ultrasound tech told me the baby is measuring about 6lbs 90z, but my doctor says that the radiologist will take other measurements into account before determining a size. Needless to say I don't think he will induce any earlier than the 23rd because the baby doesn't show to be big enough to justify taking him or her now. The thought of this depresses me since I'm not sleeping well and in lots of pain, but I guess I can make it 2 1/2 more weeks. On the bright side the baby has dropped as far as he/she will go so it is quite possible I will go into labor on my own early...I'm hoping for this!

I will not be posting anymore preggo pictures because I find myself utterly unattractive at this point, so the next time you will see my face in a pic will be after the baby is born, I'll try to remember to wear make-up for all of you.

On to house stuff. We moved into this house in July and have managed to paint every room since we've been here. We've also done a lot of work outside and virtually gutted the bathroom. I find this all to be crazy since we don't own the house and never will. However, we've made it home for now. I also think it is funny that I'm going to get this house just the way I like it and then we will move, we are hoping to buy a house within the next year.

This is the kids' room

Here is a close-up of the wall. My mom free handed all of this and I supervised.

This is the before picture of the laundry portion of the basement...

and here is the after pic. As you can see I still have to finish painting the cabinets.

These are the back stairs before...

and after.

The biggest change by far was the bathroom. It took us a while to complete but we actually only lived with the pink tiles for a week before we just took it all down and lived with the studs for awhile.

Doesn't this look much better?
