We spent a lot of time at the house just relaxing. I know I grew up in Texas, but it doesn't take long to forget just how hot it can be. Needless to say, the boys spent most of the time in their diapers. I found out quickly that Gus gets very grumpy when he is hot, so I only clothed him when it was absolutely necessary.
Gus always has to keep an eye on his older brother.
Everyone quickly learned they had to lock the doors when they didn't want a little visitor. John would yelling for them to come out, hanging on the door handle and looking under the door.
My mom says I had a lip like this too.
Sitting in Grandpa's chair.
"What?"
After all the busy days we had we all seemed to crash a burn.
It wouldn't be a full trip to Texas if John didn't get to paint in Grandma's art room. He had a great time, of course, and made many beautiful paintings.
What kid doesn't like sprinklers?
Baseball, baseball, baseball. He played baseball every night with Mark, but since we didn't have a bat or proper ball he played with a wooden spoon and whatever round, soft object was on hand. On our second day my mom bought him a bat and ball and he had a blast.
Oh- he is a righty who bats left...who knew?
Someday Gus will want to play, but for now he is content sitting there and smiling.
My friend Jan takes excellent, and I mean EXCELLENT pictures. She snaps the kids whenever we go over there, but I don't always see the outcome because she is a busy mom of 5 kids with 1 on the way!! Anyway, she took these yesterday and I couldn't just post one, I had to post all four. So, do you think little Gus will have red hair? Hans is excited about having a redheaded kid and thinks we should have named him Shamus, but I like August better.
While we were in Texas we went to the zoo. John loves going to the zoo and he talks about it all the time. The zoo is exhausting for the adults because John does not stay at one exhibit too long. We could find a zoo at every stop this summer and John still wouldn't get enough!
It has become tradition that my mom takes him on the merry go round everywhere they find one. Hans and I are so mean because we never take him...it's grandma's job to spoil him.
My mom and dad bought a feeding stick for John in the bird cage thingy (don't you love my termonology?). John was very hesitant at first as you can see in the first couple of pictures.
Then he started to collect some courage...
and by the end my parents were holding on for dear life as he was leaning in, as far as he could, to feed the birds.
John loved the giraffes
awww
Gus seemed to enjoy the zoo too.
These baby lions were born right before our last zoo visit in November
The little boys and I flew down to Texas for a week to spend time with my friends and family there and give Hans a chance to catch up on some work and much needed sleep.
I have A LOT of pictures so this trip will be divided into several posts. I think it is very important to mention that there are some things I did not get picture of such as my get together with Connie and Katie and their boys. It was a great afternoon filled with stubborn, cute boys. Next time I'll have to remember to take pictures. We also spent a whole day with Kelsey. Getting a picture with Kelsey holding a baby is a rare thing so I'm kicking myself that I did not get my camera out. John was pretty much in his own world the whole time we were with Kelsey, but after she left the house he couldn't stop talking about her....so Kelsey, you were greatly missed.
As always this was a busy, busy week. Enjoy!
This was at the park. It was VERY HOT!!!
Grandma read to John almost every night.
Uncle Mark is taking a rare moment to hold Gus. John monopolized most of Mark's time when he was home from work. Mark played baseball with John everyday after work until bedtime.
Emily came to visit!!! I think she was excited to meet Gus. She held him as much as she could, fed him and even changed his diapers. Emily, when are you moving in?
Can you believe how much Emily has grown? She is so tall now!!
This picture was taken the next morning. I'm sure she was tired since we all slept in the same room. John even tried to crawl in bed with her in the middle of the night.
We also got to see Graysen. Now, for those of you who were at our wedding Graysen was just a tiny baby. He is about a full head taller than John, but John still outweighs Graysen by a few pounds.
